SEASON PLAYS

A colorful painting shows the figure of a man and a woman on a motorycle, riding off into the sunset. Around them are cacti, shadowy figures of warriors, and the setting sun is the stylized symbol of the star from the Vietnamese flag. Text reads, Vietgone by Qui Nguyen, original music by Shane Rettig, directed by Keltie Forsyth. June 3 to 26, 2022. In the corner is the United Players of Vancouver logo, a black circle with the stylized letters U P V and a star.

By Qui Nguyen

A story of what it means to lose everything in a war – family, language, country – and yet find the strength to build a new life in a foreign land. Prejudice, immigration, ninjas and hip hop can’t stand in the way of the playwright’s parents getting together.
